Fans wonder when a Subaru hybrid might be seen and we are going to look at the Subaru Company and explore their ideas for Subaru Hybrids and their design. At present, there are no Subaru hybrids in the foreign hybrid car market. This does not mean that the company does not have some specific ideas and prototypes that they are working on. Subaru would like to move right to the lead position when it comes to clean fuel vehicle designs and production. There is no doubt that Subaru will be following in the clean car vehicle footsteps of their competitors and will have one or both soon available.

Currently there are no other hybrid vehicles close to production in the Subaru Company. However, the auto company does have some ideas that will include a four-door version in the future. One of these will be the crossover B5 TPH model; this is a streamlined mini-SUV , which will have a combination gas/electric operating system.

The two Subaru hybrids that the parent company may offer in the near future are the R1e and the B9 SC Scramble . Both of these cars offer some intriguing ideas and possibilities, but as yet they are not available to consumers. One of these prototype models is the Subaru B9 SC Scramble. This is a futuristic, sleekly designed convertible that is built for only two passengers. The car operates on electric and gasoline powered engines as do most of the other hybrid offerings. The gasoline engine is a 2.0-liter four cylinder and it will only kick in when the car reaches a speed that is in excess of 50mph. This makes this car very unlike most of the competition because their electric motors will only operate at low speeds up to 30 mph, before requiring additional input from the larger gas engine. The 50 mph capacity of the Subaru Scramble’s proposed electric motor will put it miles ahead of the nearest competitor.

This hybrid also has an air-ride suspension design that is very unique when compared to the standard suspension set-up. It offers extreme comfort to the occupants, given the size and weight of the vehicle. In addition, the body of the car is made of a material that has been created to be highly dent and scratch resistant. The car is expected to be only sale in 2009 for the Japanese market only. Subaru only plans to make 590,000 of these electric/gasoline hybrid cars, and availability will be extremely limited to say the least. The demand for the Subaru Scramble hybrid will be high enough to see it sold out of pre-production and probably will see a long reserved list for the first year of actual production.

This Subaru hybrid car is expected to have a total driving range of 124 miles with a full charge on the electric motor. There will still be the reserve power and driving range that can be tapped into by using the gas motor when necessary. The rather limited driving range of this little hybrid car is perfect for drivers who want a sporty and distinctive means of transportation that can be used in the city. The size of the Subaru Scramble is small but provides enough room for the two occupants to be comfortable. The principle use of this clean fuel vehicle will by city dwellers that need economical in town transportation. This concept car should be the perfect mode of transport to get urban residents to and from work for little cost. Pricing for this hybrid vehicle is unknown as this time, but more than likely will be released closer to the actual production date. Subaru is managing to keep many of the details under wraps at this time.

The R1e Subaru hybrid is another concept car . Again, the company has planned the design around the seating of only two occupants. This is a true electric vehicle, with no gasoline engine to assist or back up the smaller motor. This one factor sets the R1e Subaru apart from the other hybrid vehicles on the market. The R1e can only reach a max speed of 65 mph and a will have a total range of only 50 miles. This car will have a rather narrow market or consumers that drive only a few miles to work. The battery in this car is a specially designed 346 volt lithium ion battery pack and it will offer the benefit of being able to become fully charged in as little as 15 minutes. That will be a huge selling feature, even with the low driving range of the vehicle. You can certainly expect to see other manufacturers bringing totally electric cars into the market within a few years, especially if the R1e concept car goes into actual production.

The Subaru hybrids are eagerly anticipated and consumers should expect some good fuel ratings on any of the combination operating systems. It is a safe bet that these hybrids should have fuel ratings comparable to any of the other foreign hybrids on the market today. The prices for these hybrids will likely make them highly competitive as well. Subaru has long been known for quality in their car design and construction and this should continue and be evident in these hybrid models when they hit the market.
