Designed by an automobile designer named Sacha Lakic and was developed by French manufacturer Venturi , "Astrolab " is considered as a breakthrough because it does not only uses solar energy to operate but it is also a hybrid which is beneficial for the environment. This solar car has 16kW electric motor that is built inside it. "Astrolab" only needs a small amount of energy to be able to start propulsion. "Astrolab" is capable of traveling a minimum distance of about 110 to 120 kilometers using the 120kp as top speed.
This solar powered car is a proof that it is indeed possible to come up with a car relying solely on the sun’s energy that the public can fully benefit from in the years to come.
Solar Powered Cars: How Much Do They Cost?
Most of the manufacturers of solar cars do not reveal the cost their creation because they think that there is no definite target market for the solar yet. But according to experts, since solar cars also uses modern technology and system just like what is being used for the hybrid technology, a solar car could probably cost from $80,000 to $120,000 or even higher depending on the materials that were used.
A certain Chinese company introduced a solar-powered car for the price of $5,560 . But this is a very small tiny car that has solar panels on its roof. The panels that were placed on its roof, they say, can charge the battery to last for a three-mile trip within an hour. If the panels on the roof of the tiny car are charged under the sun’s heat for more than 30 hours, it can travel up to 90 miles and more.
Today, solar panels are being used at home only. The average cost of a functional solar panel at home would cost you around $15,000-$25,000. Can you just imagine how much it would cost if the solar panels were to be used as the body, hood, and roof of the solar powered car? It would really cost a lot of money and since everything will be customized to be ideal for solar energy, it would cost someone a fortune if he or she tries to buy one or decided to give funding for a specific solar powered car endeavor or project.
As of the moment, there is no definite cost of solar powered cars that is available for the market. This is because the designers and the manufacturers do not see a market for it yet. Since solar powered vehicles would require much time and research to find out which are the best ones to put in together to built the best one there is, a hefty sum of money would be needed to complete the research and move on to the next level.
