When taking a look at the cylinders themselves in a traditional engine, the pistons and other internal components are heavier which in turn uses more energy for operation, and the displacements of the cylinders are larger which take more energy and fuel in order to operate them within the engine itself. Larger, heavier parts require more energy and fuel no matter if you are using your vehicle during regular city driving, uphill or even accelerating at higher speeds. Instead of including an engine that will be able to perform at a peak, the hybrid car performance operates at an optimum level with a backup electrical supply in those few times that it is needed.

The braking force of a vehicle is known as the kinetic energy that is produced from operation. With hybrid automobiles, this energy can be harnessed in order to store it for later use. Where the electric motor acts as a generator, the regenerative braking takes over some of the stopping tasks that normally would be handled by your brakes in a conventional vehicle, and uses it to stop your car. By converting some of this kinetic energy and storing it for later use, you are also improving the fuel economy, making the hybrid car performance even more attractive for those looking at purchasing a vehicle of this type in the near future.
