A Brief Look At The Honda Civic Hybrid

[ad]

It looks like Honda has outdone itself yet again. The original Honda Civic is a 65 mile per gallon was the first hybrid car sold in the year 2000. And when Honda decided on the name for its new Honda hybrid, they decided that Civic would be the perfect name. The new Honda Civic Hybrid seemed like the perfect name.

The Honda Civic Hybrid is due to hit car lots in April of 2009. It made its debut at the Paris Auto Show in October with rave reviews. It was also revealed at the LA Auto Show in November. However, Honda is kind of keeping hush hush on the details of their new hybrid. We do know for sure it will be a bit smaller than the Honda Civic Hybrid and somewhat cheaper than both the Civic Hybrid and the Toyota Prius.

The Civic hybrid will be a 5 passenger, 5 door hatchback. Rumors that have been leaking out of Japan indicate that the new Civic will be home to a new, state-of-the-art battery. No one is saying what kind of battery it will be but car experts are saying it may be an advanced NiMH battery.

LetÕs talk about efficiency. At an EPA average fuel efficiency of 65 miles per gallon, CivicsÕ is being classified as Òthe worldÕs most fuel-efficient vehicle.Ó Can you imagine going 61 miles on one tank of gas? I have a Ford Windstar minivan and I barely get 35 miles per gallon. Now it important to note that the 61 miles per gallon is in the city and the highway will get you 68 miles to the gallon. Unbelievable! So you may ask why fuel efficiency is important right.

Well, there are several reasons. First, of course, it goes a lot further than the same amount of fuel as most cars on the road today. Another reason is that it reduces consumption of non-renewable resources. There are huge issues with producing and transporting petroleum that the less we use of it, the better.

An emissions of carbon dioxide which is also known as greenhouse gas is directly tied to the amount of fuel burned which lead the original CivicsÕ to win the 2000 EPA Climate Protection Award.
There are other ways that the Honda Civic Hybrid uses its advance technology to optimize efficiency and reduce emissions. One example is the Idle stop: this turns off the engine when it is not needed and instantly starts up again when it is needed. The restart is instant, quiet and smooth. The Fuel Cut Mode allows the engine to continuing moving while no fuel is being burned.

The CivicsÕ unique shape is designed to achieve low aerodynamic drag. The downward taper roof, upward tapered underbody and the narrowness of the car in the rear is perfect for aerodynamics. The rear wheel covers reduces turbulence and the smooth underbody makes for a clean airflow under the car.

The inside of the car is made for luxury and comfort. Some features include seatbelts that have pretensioners and load limiters, dual airbags, anti lock brakes and wiper blade pivots. Other features include automatic climate control, anti-theft immobilizer, keyless entry remote, large storage compartments, power windows, mirrors and locks and map and vanity lights.

In the United State the MSRP is stated at $19,080 for the base model, $20,280 with A/C and $21,280 for the CVT model.
