The economy is failing. People are driving less and buying less cars. Scientists are scrambling to figure out how we can get ourselves out of this situation. Because of all this, Toyota is selling more Priuses than ever. And, Honda is wondering, “Hey, didn’t we have that idea first?” Sure they did. But in an era when Hummers ruled the blacktop, there wasn’t room for a small, energy efficient car .

All of the Honda Insights got lost, bullied under by a sea of Ford Explorers and Jeep Cherokees . So now, Honda is saying, “You know, we did have that idea first. We were the first hybrids on the block, and we are going to do it again.” So Honda looked into its fleet and saw the Civic. Why try to create a new brand name when you can just use one of the most recognized vehicles in the world to become reborn as your new cash cow? It’s about the same size as the Prius. Cheaper than the Prius , and has almost a cult following.

Of course, The Civic is no stranger to energy efficiency (which could be another reason it was chosen.) Even before the rise of the hybrid craze, the Civic had something that few cars have even today. Something that can turn a 25mpg car into a 35mpg car (highway). The Civic H already had a variable speed transmission . Sure, hybrids are great when you drive them around town. They recharge when you stop. But what happens when you don’t stop? What happens when you drive 30 miles to work every day instead of five? Then you buy the Honda Civic with the variable speed transmission.

So much fuel economy is wasted on being in the wrong gear at the wrong time. When you drive a Civic Hybrid , you don’t have to worry about that. You just coast down the highway, up and over mountains, and seamlessly merge onto the interstate. All without feeling the car jarring to switch gears. If for only the transmission alone, the Civic Hybrid is more than worth its weight in Priuses.

If you are looking for a new car it’s kind of hard to miss the Civic Hybrid. They have the benefit of being better styled than the Prius (in my humble opinion) They have roughly the same fuel economy as a Prius, not to mention they have better fuel economy than 90 % of the rest of the cars on the road today . And they are cheaper than the Prius. And let’s face it, in today’s world, that counts for a lot. Honda made a new hybrid. This time, it’s one that people will buy.

I hope you enjoyed this new Honda Civic hybrid car review!
