Luxury SUV hybrids are becoming the popular pick among car consumers nowadays. Look at the number of people opting for these cars in contrast to those who are still buying the conventional ones. The growth is staggering.

The Favorite Pick

However, just like conventional cars, there are also different variants of hybrids. Hence, among these different models there would also be the crowd favorite and as statistics reflect, that would be luxury SUV hybrids. So, as a guide, here are the best hybrid SUVs that consumers of all levels love and adore.

Pick Number One: 2008 Lexus RX 400h

According to various polls, sales records and statistics conducted by authorities, the top SUV to hit the chart would be the Lexus RX 400h. This car actually gives its owners a rare mix of sport efficacy performance along with Lexus luxury with an environmental twist. It actually ranks extremely highly among SUVs in the hybrid category and luxury midsize SUVs.

Without considering its sticker price, reviewers actually praise this luxury SUV hybrid model for its driving performance that is notable comparable to the RX 350, which is its sibling. Additionally, this is a lone pick for the fuel-efficient types, especially within the luxury SUV category.

Experts believe that this model is actually the first to offer its users an ecology-minded no-compromise alternative for users that do not want to sacrifice comfort and for the planet’s sake. However, if you would consider the price, you would be better off thinking that you’ll be saving the environment and not necessarily money.

This car’s performance is considered to be very good along with its sleek and stylish exterior. As for interiors, you’ll surely find it comfortable and pretty well equipped.

Luxury SUV Hybrid Pick Number Two: Toyota Highlander Hybrid 2008

This car is the second most favorite and best SUV in the hybrid category. This car ranks close to the top of its class since it offers a smooth ride, roomy interior and most of all a refined hybrid powertrain. Nevertheless, some experts feel that its price is too high in contrast to its non-hybrid counterpart. Additionally, it can’t match the offered cargo space and sportier handling of other competitors.

Compared to its predecessor, this model is quite larger. It also sports an innovative electric-only mode so that you can improve fuel economy even more. A lot of reviewers are actually pleased with its changes. However, this luxury SUV hybrid has a price that might make you pause.

If you’ll consider performance alone, this model also ranks best among the rest. This is because it offers you a very smooth ride that has a lot of power; this is considered to be a pretty rare combination considering that it’s a hybrid vehicle.

However, one set-back of this luxury SUV hybrid is that its exteriors are somewhat mediocre. It lacks a bit of uniqueness and seems to simply blend in and not stand out when compared to other SUVs. Nevertheless, its interiors are much pleasing as it offers a spacious cabin compared to what others have.

Pick Number Three: Ford Escape Hybrid 2008

This SUV is very environmentally conscious yet still sports comfortable interiors and a tough exterior. Sadly it still doesn’t match the overall quality or level of driving dynamics that other top-class SUVs could offer.

As for power, even though hybrids are known to have lower power, most reviewers are actually pleased with this SUV’s capabilities. In fact, this vehicle’s performance even ranks over the upper half of its class.

Nevertheless, handling is still not quite balanced. This drawback is said to be due to its powertrain’s added weight, which is more over 250 pounds. This significantly affects the car’s handling, which is also worsened by its electric power steering, which is a must for any hybrids.

As for the exterior characteristics, most people have mixed emotions on how they perceive this car. Some describe it as muscular, while other people don’t really think so. On the other hand, its interiors have has significant improvements. First off, would be the car’s cabin comfort along with quality. As soon as you get in, you’ll observe the clean, quiet and modern cabin, which has a lot of interior room to offer. Due to these, this car became really worth it to be one of the best hybrid SUVs in the market.

This article discusses Dodge hybrid cars, trucks, and SUVs. If you’re doing research or trying to decide if you want to buy a hybrid vehicle, this is a good place to start.

As fuel prices keep rising, the Dodge hybrids give consumers an option when considering a vehicle purchase based on fuel economy.

Hybrids are a new type of vehicle that combine a battery pack with fuel to create a more efficient vehicle. Other factors to consider when deciding whether to purchase a hybrid are the quality of the vehicle, hybrid car cost, operating costs – not only the fuel costs, but potentially having to replace the battery pack, safety features , and availability.

The Dodge hybrid business started when Chrysler Dodge was challenged in 1993 to come out with a vehicle that would be more efficient. The Partnership for a New Generation of Vehicles was formed to get American companies to produce more fuel-efficient vehicles. Chrysler Dodge produced the Dodge Intrepid ESX 1 in 1996, with a goal of achieving 80 MPG . This vehicle proved too expensive to produce for the mass market, with a cost of $90K to the consumer.

Over the years, two more models were created: the ESX II in 1998 and the ESX III in 2003. The ESX II has been dubbed a “mybrid” because it was a mild hybrid, and the primary power came from the diesel engine. The electric motor kept the batteries charged. This vehicle ended up with a final cost of around $37K. In order to cut down on weight and cost of this vehicle, Chrysler Dodge fit the vehicle with a thermoplastic body without paint on an aluminum frame. Dodge continued to try to streamline this design, and the research went a long way to making American hybrid cars marketable.

The third attempt at the ESX in 2003 proved that technology had come a long way. This Dodge hybrid model had achieved 72 MPG and weighed in at 2,250 lbs. The vehicle was more than 80% recyclable. Dodge, however, has retired the Intrepid nameplate and did not produce a marketable hybrid sedan.

[ad]

The Dodge hybrids include a new 2009 Dodge Durango hybrid that is currently available on the market. This vehicle has combined hybrid vehicles and sports utility into what was originally thought an impossibility. The starting price is around $42K for one of these vehicles, and the benefits are considerable. This vehicle will have a 300-volt battery pack beneath the seats, charged by regenerative braking. A converter under the hood will turn the battery pack’s AC power to DC power for the lights, climate control, and the radio.

The 2009 Durango hybrid is to be made available as an all-wheel model, with all the equipment and features that go with the top of the line; seating for eight, heated front seats, power -adjustable pedals, rearview camera, and a power lift gate. The Dodge’s MyGIG Multi-Media Infotainment system.

The Dodge hybrid’s Durango Infotainment System includes an eight-inch touch screen, navigation system and voice activation… including real-time traffic. It also has a 20-gigabyte hard drive, which holds music and picture files.

Fuel economy for this model is estimated to 18 MPG city and 19 MPG on the highway. This boosts city fuel economy by about 40%, and 25% for highway compared to the current 13 and 18 MPG for the current AWD Durango. On the inside of the vehicle, the Durango hybrid contains a power gauge that shows a green economy zone so the drive can aim for optimal fuel economy.

This is an exciting feature for those concerned with owning a clean fuel vehicle.

The Dodge Durango also has a safety feature in the event of an accident. If the airbags are deployed, emergency personnel can pull the high voltage service disconnect at the battery pack. Once it has been pulled, the system has to reset, and the vehicle runs a self-diagnostic test before it will restart.

The Dodge hybrid is working to introduce a hybrid Dodge Ram in 2010 . This is a full size truck that will give a 30% boost in fuel economy. The Dodge Ram hybrid will use a battery pack and a Multi-Displacement 5.7 Hemi , which means it will run as a 4 cylinder in the highway and an 8 cylinder in the city. Towing ability should not be affected with this combination, but it is advised that when towing, don’t expect the same savings in gas mileage, but with regular driving, it is estimated to get 19 MPG city, 18 MPG highway.

In order to keep up with the changing world, Dodge seems to be making strides towards creating a hybrid that will be affordable to purchase and operate. Let’s keep our eyes open for the new models that will be coming out soon – hopefully we will be able to cross the technology over for sedans and minivans.

The Ford Escape Hybrid may just prove to be the cat’s meow for today’s hybrid car shopper. Considering the small fortune required to fill up one’s tank, many people are considering alternative means of getting around, including the gas-sipping hybrid vehicles being produced today.

Did you know that the Ford Escape Hybrid was the first production hybrid SUV to hit the market? Indeed, Ford has the right to boast about its expertise in the hybrid vehicle industry. And, the recently redesigned Ford Escape Hybrid has plenty to offer, and it is evident that the car manufacturer has had experience building a respectable hybrid

Is there a better reason to consider the purchase of a hybrid vehicle than the positive implications it would have on your pocket book? I would say no, but I’m just speculating here. Compared to it’s gasoline counterpart, the Ford Escape Hybrid offers a significant increase in fuel economy, even when compared to the four cylinder, gasoline version. Offering a very respectable 29 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway, the Escape Hybrid’s anti-guzzling tendencies rival many traditional economy type vehicles. And when you consider that the four cylinder Escape gets 19 mpg and 25 mpg, city and highway respectively, it is clear that the difference is significant.

What is even more admirable is the fact that the Hybrid’s engine, rated at 177 horsepower, is slightly more powerful than the gasoline version’s 171 horsepower output. Now, I’m not implying that you will be winning many drag races with either of these vehicles, however, the Hybrid does have ample power for comfortable and confident city commuting, while keeping pace on the freeways.

[ad]

To get a better feel for the potential savings you would realize from the Escape Hybrid, you need not look further than the “range” of each vehicle, that is, the distance you can travel on one tank of gas. Ford specs show that the gas version’s tank has a fuel capacity of 16.5 gallons, while the Hybrid will max out at roughly 15.1 gallons. Get ready to be shocked… The gas version will take you 313 miles on a tank of gas, while the Hybrid can travel from Phoenix to Los Angeles and have a little left over, or about 437 miles, on a single tank. In a word… Wow!

There are more and more hybrid vehicles being offered by various manufacturers, seemingly on a daily basis. You may be wondering how the Ford Escape Hybrid stacks up versus the competition . I would encourage you to do your own research, but I can tell you that having read many reviews from many different sources, the Escape Hyrbid has made quite an impact. And while some reviews seem to fall a bit short of expectation, the general sentiment of those who have actually taken the plunge and purchased this vehicle all seem to praise it

While Edmunds.com gives the SUV a 7.5 “Editor’s rating”, the consumer ratings soar to 9.4 as determined by daily drivers of the vehicle. The general consensus is that the vehicle is built solidly with quality materials. Further reinforcing this sentiment, JD Power gave the Ford Escape Hybrid 4/5 in initial build quality – not too shabby by any means. I don’t think it would be a stretch to infer, based on the similar opinions offered across the board, that Ford has put out a very respectable, high-quality product in the Escape Hybrid .

Uh, oh… sounds expensive. Truth be told, the Hyrbrid is a little bit pricier than its gas-powered brother , however the money you save at the pump will likely offset the difference and then some. While the base price of the gas version is around $20,100, the comparable Hybrid will set you back about $29,300. Those prices reflect 2009 model year, FWD, entry versions of each vehicle. Indeed the price difference may seem a bit extreme, but it is understandable and justified for a couple of reasons.

First of all, vehicles are worth as much as the consumer public is willing to pay. If Ford can fetch just shy of thirty grand for the Escape Hybrid, then they’d be crazy not to charge that much.

Secondly, in the grand scheme of automotive history, hybrid technology is still relatively new . Just as the price of a plasma television has dropped dramatically in recent years, so too will the price of hybrids as they become more mainstream. At least the hybrid vehicles do actually save you money in the long term. Depending on how much you drive, it might even be conceivable that the Ford Escape Hybrid shows you a return on your investment much sooner than later.

So, where do you buy one? The Ford Escape Hybrid is a vehicle in considerably high demand . As such, you won’t be able to go down to your local Ford dealership and have fifty to choose from, as is the case with most mass production vehicles.

With that said, I have checked a couple of dealerships, even in smaller markets, and most will have at least a handful on the lot. It goes without saying, but it is clear that the supply is not meeting the demand, so if you do go shopping for this admirable little beauty, don’t expect an abundance of choices. If you’re willing to wait for exactly what you want though, you can always order one exactly as you desire, or have your local dealership do a nationwide search in order to possibly locate your ideal Escape Hybrid .

The bottom line is that you could do much worse than a Ford Escape Hybrid, and I’m fairly certain that if you were to ask anyone who has one, he or she would tell you that it is every penny’s worth the price of admission.

This article is about hybrid minivans and how they don’t yet exist. However, some hybrid van alternatives are provided, along with some projections about when they will be available in the United States.

[ad]

The popularity of hybrid vehicles is increasing every year and one market in particular is set to be exploited: the soccer moms and hybrid minivans .

Unfortunately, there are currently no hybrid minivans available to the U.S. market of buyers, which should be changing in the near future. Toyota is supposed to be unveiling a hybrid minivan for the U.S. market with the release of the Sienna. Currently, Toyota’s hybrid minivan, the Estima, is only available in Japan.

The nearest option for a buyer in the U.S. wanting a hybrid minivan are the various hybrid SUVs , such as the Ford Escape and Toyota Highlander .

Because of the ample space for passengers and storage, one has to wonder why the various auto makers are not exploiting the huge minivan market and make a hybrid for this market. For the mass amount of appeal that minivans have in the world, it is time for the auto makers to provide the hybrid minivans that everyone is waiting for.

With the large number of minivans already on the market, the advantage these hybrid minivans is obvious. One of the largest advantages would be the fuel savings these minivans would offer buyers. Along with consuming less gasoline, another big advantage would be the environmental savings they offer. By burning less fuel, they would also produce less harmful emissions than their gasoline counterpart.

For minivan-driving families that go all over the city shopping and being chauffeurs for their kids and their friends, the addition of a hybrid minivan to the family of alternative fuel vehicles would be very welcomed to these families and well received.

With the investment and commitment the Japanese car makers have made in the future of hybrid technology, and with the demand the public seems to be making for someone to deliver a hybrid van to the market, it makes one wonder why no car maker has stepped up the plate to deliver one.

While Toyota is rumored to be releasing it’s Sienna model in the United States as a hybrid, no other manufacturer seems to want to fill this huge market’s demand for such a vehicle. (Why?)

Perhaps with the success of the hybrid SUVs currently available, the auto industry is happy as is, but the demand is still there, and the company that delivers the first hybrid minivan should be laughing all the way to the bank.

TECHNOLOGY:

BMW plans to use cutting edge technology in their hybrid cars, these cars are going to make use of Hydrogen and gasoline instead of gas and electricity, which most modern hybrid cars use. BMW plans to produce engines that would use both hydrogen and petroleum on the 7 series BMW models .

Few prototypes of the BMW hybrid are already under trial in a number of countries; and so far so good, the various engineers and researchers working on this project have received positive and practical feedback.

WHY HYDROGEN FOR THE BMW HYBRID?

Who wouldn’t want a car that could run on water ? Although it may take the company another 15 to 20 years to produce a car that runs totally on hydrogen, this world famous automotive company is optimistic that it will one day be possible for you to run your vehicle solely on hydrogen. They have spent the last couple of years researching and working on hydrogen technology and feel that hydrogen is the best solution for environmental problems.

Hydrogen does not release harmful emissions and does not contribute to the pollution . It is also a renewable source of energy; it could be the perfect solution to reduce dependency on fossil fuels.

The only problem with using hydrogen technology is that the hydrogen should be kept cool, to prevent any evaporation while in transit or in the car. However, BMW claims that they have solved this particular problem and have found a way to keep the temperature in the engine low, to prevent evaporation
BMW have already produced a car that can run on water and releases water vapor at the exhaust. The company is now on their way to inventing a solar powered technology that enables the extraction of hydrogen fuel from water.

Even though it is a green hybrid car, you won’t have to worry about driving a car that is small and equipped with an engine that has very little power. A BMW hybrid assures the public that they are not compromising on any feature that a standard BMW car provides. Therefore, you can be sure to get optimum power, elegance, sophistication, luxury and not to forget, unique style .

The H2R makes use of a 6.0-liter V12 gasoline engine, and it can achieve 285 hp. The H2R has the capabilities to accelerate from 0 to 60 under 6 seconds.
